An accomplished composer and conductor, Frederick Umar has worked with countless ensembles and orchestras. He is currently contracted to create orchestral and wind band arrangements for multiple ensembles in addition to completing commissions for local and collegiate ensembles across the United States, China, and Japan. Recently, Fred Umar was asked to co-write several popular works for top 40 radio. Dr. Umar serves as an adjunct faculty professor at Park University, where he teaches several online courses such as Introduction to Music. Furthermore, Fred Umar is a member of many professional associations including the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).

VERSED is an ASCAP-produced biweekly podcast featuring interviews with important figures in the music industry. In its latest episode, the podcast focused on Devon Gilfillian, a musician who recently received the ASCAP Foundation Leon Brettler Award. In 2020, Gilfillian released his debut album, Black Hole Rainbow, earning his first Grammy nomination.
